About Coach Connie

Connie began junior coaching when she was just 14 years old at the Ray and Joan Kroc CenterIce Rink. Connie fell in love with coaching immediately and wanted to turn her passion into her career.

She then transferred to San Diego Ice Arena where Connie was mentored by Skating Director Ms. Wendy Smith. During her time at San Diego Ice Arena she did much more than just coach. Connie was a Manager and Customer Lead, Figure skating group class coach, Hockey Director Assistant, Pro Shop employee, product, program sales and office operations, tournaments/figure skating competitions. San Diego Ice Arena helped give Connie the knowledge needed to take her next adventure.

After graduation from San Diego State University she was contracted to develop programs for Poway Ice, an ice rink, that had’t even been built yet. Within 6 months she developed an email list of over 6,000 skating enthusiast and enrolled over 750 people in programs. Her contributions helped a facility that previously no one had heard of, to an elite ice arena.

Connie realized that coaching was her true passion she took a Senior Coaching position and the duties of Marketing Director at Ice-Plex Escondido until the Rink was closed due to the Covid Pandemic. Approach to Coaching

Connie believes that all skaters come from different backgrounds and all learn differently. She works to build relationships with her students that go beyond the ice so she can understand how to best help them navigate not only their skating career but whatever they choose to do in life.

Connie believes in a positive and fun learning environment. Skaters who are happy to be on the ice progress faster then skaters who are not. A lot of success stems from the coach/skater dynamic. Connie treats all of her students like they are adults and with respect. Connie prides herself on the relationships she has with her students both on and off the ice.

Connie promotes an environment where all of her students are friends. When they go to the rink, they always have someone to practice with. Since skating is a high pressure/ individual sport it is imperative to Connie that her students support each other and cheer each other on!

Connie is proud to celebrate all of her students accomplishments both on and off the ice. Encouraging lots of fun activities off the ice such as going to amusement parks, seeing Disney on Ice, and lots of parties. These bonding opportunities are critical to keeping skaters motivated.
